We are a sustainable community development project out of the University of Rochester Department of Family Medicine and we are glad you have found us! Our Department has partnered with a rural community in Southwest Honduras called San Jose San Marcos de la Sierra. We started working with this community in 2005 and have made great strides improving the health of the local population through a collaborative approach to rural development. Although we are physicians by training, much of our efforts in San Jose are non-medical in nature. For the San Jose community members, lack of safe water and under-nutrition cause more ill health than does their limited access to curative health care. We realize this and create solutions to address the problems, even when the solutions are outside our comfort zone.

20th Anniversary!

2025 marks the 20th year we have worked with the people of San Jose. Visit our Anniversary page to learn more.

San Jose Partners, Inc was formed in early 2024 to better delineate our activities in Honduras from the main activities of the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Rochester. San Jose Partners, Inc is a 501c3 tax exempt charitable organization in the US. Our mission and the people involved have not changed.

The Fall 2025 trip report is now available! Due to a scheduling error in the Department no medical team was sent in the Fall 2025. Doug went solo and the Fall 2025 trip report chronicles Doug’s efforts in San Jose.

Fall 2025. Due to a scheduling error we did not send a medical team to San Jose. Doug Stockman was able to spend 4 weeks in Honduras and accomplished much. Check back soon for the Trip Report.

2025 Fundraising Silent Auction. The Auction has been moved to Feb-Mar 2026. We hope to expand the Auction to allow on-line bidding.

Farm-To-Table coffee from San Jose is being sold this June and July. From our May 2025 trip we brought back about 130 pounds of coffee. It should be ready for sale by the last week of June. Lempira Organic coffee from Margarito Sanchez is $14/pound and Maria Gloria's coffee is $13/pound. She sells two varieties of coffee: Indio and Lempira.

Silent Auction 2024 Fundraiser just finished. This yearly event is held at Highland Family Medicine and showcases creations from people who work at HFM (or their relatives). We raised over $1,500 and were so impressed by the talents of people at HFM. Silent Auction Site.

A group of medical and dental professionals returned on November 7th from two weeks in Honduras. The group was very busy and helped many people. We will post the trip report very soon to provide more details.

Doug Stockman made a solo trip in September 2024 to San Jose. He was able to install another 8 solar systems as well as complete other tasks. View his trip report here: Trip Report September 2024.

The Spring 2024 Trip Report is now available on-line! Due to weather-related flight delays we arrived in San Jose 3 days later than anticipated. This limited our interventions but the team did a great job working, and playing, hard to make the trip a success.

In January 2024 Dr. Stockman visited San Jose on his own. With the help of interpreter Melissa he was able to install 7 solar systems.

Dr. Stockman made a solo trip in September 2022. He installed 5 solar systems while there as well as connected with multiple people in the area. Learn more about the Simple Solar System project.

Spring 2022 Honduras Trip. We sent a team of 6 professionals to San Jose in May 2022. The trip was a success and much was accomplished. The Trip Report documenting some of what we did this trip can be viewed here.

Silent Auction fundraiser ended on December 9th and was a huge success! The auction is held every December at Highland Family Medicine. People create items for the auction that other Highland Family Medicine Members can bid on.

Holiday wreath sale at Highland Family Medicine occurred this year for the first time in 2 years and had been postponed due to Covid. The fund-raising event raised over $1,000 for San Jose Partner's activities in Honduras!
